PG Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People; BA in Community Education
Nicola started her counselling training in 2012, achieving her diploma in Counselling Children and Young People at Simpson House in Edinburgh. Alongside this she has BA in Community Education and has undertaken a range of training courses around young people’s issues and therapeutic working. Nicola has worked in youth work for over 10 years, specialising in work in secondary schools and in particularly individualised work with young people experiencing a range of difficulties.
As well as working at Rowan Consultancy, Nicola currently works with Relationships Scotland in Dundee as a young person’s counsellor. She also worked with CAMHS for 2 years setting up her own counselling service there. Nicola is now about to set up counselling in secondary schools within Dundee and is committed and passionate about all young people having access to a counsellor at school. Nicola recognises the safe relationship that counselling can offer young people who need it most and the soothing that can come from this relationship.
Nicola feels privileged to develop meaningful relationships with young people and has a vast experience of counselling young children and young adults. Nicola is a creative counsellor who enjoys using a range of materials in the room with clients. “Life is unexpected and will throw challenges at you when you least expect it. I want to support young people to be able to cope with these challenges and develop their resilience at what life will throw at them now and in the future”. Nicola is interested in undertaking family therapy training in the future. She is also keen to develop training in grief and loss especially sudden grief.
